U8 Worksop College Tournament

Mansfield were invited to attend the Worksop Festival for the second year of this event hosted by Bury St Edmonds RFC at the college
This year’s event had grown in size including more age groups and more clubs. Mansfield were pitched against, Bury St Edmonds, Chesterfield, East Retford and Wortley RFCs
Game 1
Mansfield V Chesterfield
Mansfield quickly got into their stride, scoring with some direct running and came out winning by two clear tries
Game 2
Mansfield v East Retford
With a few players rested and other squad members getting a start, Mansfield seemed to slow but some good staging kept the game close. The matched ebbed to and fro until the final whistle. Final score 6-5 to East Retford
Game 3
Mansfield v Wortley
With more player rotation, the third game commenced with some good scoring attempts and supporting the ball-carrier well. The game turned into a seesawing game with scoring one way then the other. With the score tied and time running out Mansfield managed to create a 3 on 1 overlap. The tag was made, the pass was good enough, and a clear run to the line by 2 players, but both went for the ball causing a knock on. Wortley picked it up on advantage and ran in unchallenged to score. When the final whistle was blown, Mansfield again lost by a single score.
Game 4
Mansfield v Bury St Edmonds
It was early afternoon by the time we played out last fixture against the touring side Bury St Edmonds
With a little bit more rotation of the squad to keep the guys fresh it might have been a closer affair, but Bury were a well organised side and quickly got into the lead which was too much to claw back and they came out on top by 4scores, which they had also done to the other sides.

A great day was had by all with most of the squad and coaches attending our first Festival. We look forward to the rematch next season.
