Report by I Wallis

It was a cloudy but otherwise a great day for rugby.
Grimsby arrived and it was clear they had a very strong and fast team.
This didn't bother the Mansfield boys as they were up for this match.
Mansfield started the match with a good kick a chase catching the Grimsby boys. Mansfield had started with great intent, putting Grimsby under pressure forcing a penalty at around 28/30 meters out on the left wing 5m in. Harry Brough struck the ball well and through the uprights it went.
Mansfield 3 - Grimsby 0

Grimsby took the restart Mansfield took the ball well, now it was Grimsby applying the pressure yet Mansfield were trying to keep the ball moving. Mansfield pushed forward then were held up. Scrum Grimsby ball. They secured the ball and moved the ball well and it soon became clear they had three very fast runners. Yet there was no panic in the Mansfield boys and they dealt with the problem shutting them down with hard strong tackling. As you all dug in and and tackled and defended strongly.
It became apparent to all this was going to be a match of attrition as you were all throwing your body's online. It was back and fourth as the first half drew to a close.
Halftime
Mansfield 3 - 0 Grimsby.

Grimsby took the restart Mansfield missed ball after a bounce as it went to grubbing and out it went after coming off a Mansfield player.
The match continued in the same way as the first.
Mansfield broke out a few times and pushed hard for a try but Grimsby were putting up a good defence their was some communication errors that we missed the overlap and while you were in there half you made the most of it. Forcing the errors and penalties and were you before would run it you opted for the kick and the two you got Harry Brough struck the ball well on both slotting both between the uprights. The score after these.
Mansfield 9 - 0 Grimsby
Grimsby restarted again and pressed hard unleashing there runners but you all stood firm all of you tackling hard and a lot of stand out tackles one on one stood out as you dug in to the onslaught.
Your try line defence was inspiring to watch as the clock ticked down then under the pressure you turned the ball over and broke out up to around 35 meters out from the Grimsby try line to which would be the last full scrum of the match after the ball came out something occurred which resulted in Grimsby player off to the sin bin.
As the play now came back into the Mansfield half a maul was called and became a scrum Mansfield ball uncontested. Which Mansfield secured and moved the ball right and pushed down the rightwing the ball was forced out for a lineout. Ref said last play. Mansfield secured the ball, and kicked the ball out.
Final whistle goes, to a very hard fought match by two strong teams at times things were messy by both teams in the set pieces.
But what a great match to watch your passion and discipline was tested and tested against a team who came to beat you in your own backyard. Watching this my regimental motto came to mind and fits this team like a glove playing like this. Which is Stand Firm. Strike Hard.
Well done to all of you.
Final Score
Mansfield 9 - Grimsby 0

And well done to Harry Brough on his MotM.
