Report by I Wallis NLD Shield Match

This was the last match in the pool stage for Mansfield in the NLD Shield.

There was a light rain which made the conditions very slippery for all involved.
Mansfield started and Scunthorpe took it well running it back at Mansfield hard. Mansfield put in some good tackles and got turn over ball. And some really good passage of play followed. Then Scunthorpe got a turn over they passed back and they put along high hanging kick down field and our fullback Sean took the ball really well yet with the ball hanging so much Scunthorpe player's were on him he went to kick as he was on his own but the ball got charged down and the bounce was kind to Scunthorpe he tried to tackle him but could not get enough of him and they had a gift of a Try with a conversion.
The whole time getting behind to say it's ok.
Mansfield 0 - 7 Scunthorpe

Mansfield restart and Scunthorpe took it well. Mansfield are up for it with a lot of good tackles going in then with some good play Scunthorpe break through and run over the Try line but Mansfield fullback was chasing and put a very hard tackle in on him and he lost the ball forward on a certain try. To much showboating and this is what happens.
The game was a tough back and forth game again Mansfield's scrums were holding up well giving as much as they were given as were the lineout's.
Then just before half-time after some hard defending from your own try line Scunthorpe went over for a Try and conversion.
Halftime
Mansfield 0 - 14 Scunthorpe

Scunthorpe restarted the game Mansfield took it well running it back and passing the ball well trying to keep the ball alive. Scunthorpe turn the ball over and come on hard at you as you defend and tackle well yet they get through for a Try and conversion
Mansfield 0 - 21 Scunthorpe

Mansfield restart with a great kick and chase you are keeping your heads up and in the game and all the hard work pays off as Owen goes over for a Try, No conversion.
(Sorry could not see which Owen)
Mansfield 5 - 21 Scunthorpe
The game restarts and you take the ball well and start passing and pressing forward this game is a battle and you are making Scunthorpe play and keep on it your groundwork is improving with every game and you are all getting stronger in the tackles. Scunthorpe defending well in there 22 all the rugby is good and with about 5 minutes to go Scunthorpe go over for a Try and No conversion.
Mansfield 5 - 26 Scunthorpe
Mansfield took the restart with a great chase and got the turn over you are battling to the end and got close but the ball went dead and the final whistle went.
Great sportsmanship by both teams at the end Scunthorpe knew they had been in a game
Final Score

You had a better second half only losing out by 7 points.
The great thing is you did not give up.
