Duel in December - Charlie’s boys play a blinder!

Well it’s been coming for a while and the hard work in training is filtering through, Mansfield U15s had a great performance today, one they should all feel proud of.
Mansfield travelled to Chellaston, Derbyshire to play Melbourne’s development side in a friendly on a glorious December sunny day.
The boys in blue were up for this one as Weszley Andrews-Sealey took the huddle and laid down the LAW and they had a point to prove as in an earlier fixture they were well beaten for more than the one reason. Skipper Charlie Colliers boys started spritely and competed across the park, Melbourne’s fly half distributed well but constant pressure from Mansfield defence and will to get across and tackle which disrupted any Melbourne ball.
With Mansfield just with an edge with the scrums and retaining their own possession from the breakdown it was only a matter of time before points were scored as the forwards gave the backs some front foot ball, Lewis Millership filling in at scrum half and doing well to feed the backs good quality ball. A quick thinking Trey Foster who gave everything today pounced on a ball from loose play and from halfway run around and outpaced the defence with two hand-offs' and away to score, unconverted.
Melbourne 0 Mansfield 5
Obviously this wasn’t in the home sides’ game plan and they quickly responded as before long Melbourne were looking for the long pass and to get the ball quickly to the wings, try Melbourne and converted.
Melbourne 7 Mansfield 5
With the slope and Mansfield’s forwards fronting up with very few given if any turnovers, Mansfield territory gains soon had Melbourne scrambling and a piece of true individual skill and brilliance from out and out winger Tyler Carrington on the receiving end of some crisp handling had the strength to beat a couple of defenders, chip and chase and then dribble the ball to score a magical try, unconverted.
Melbourne 7 Mansfield 10
Half time
The message from the coaching staff was to keep going and the pattern of the game continued with thrust and counter thrust and Mansfield’s new raw talent Martin Taylor who was everywhere (Wesz's Pitbull!) with outstanding strength dragged three defenders from the 10m line out over the line for his first score for the club, converted by place-kicker Trey Foster. Well done Martin!
Melbourne 7 Mansfield 17
Melbourne straight back after emptying the bench Melbourne’s Coach strangely over confident???
Melbourne 12 Mansfield 17
Lots of midfield action with a very welcomed returning Jason Ladapo at fullback with some big hits try saving tackles and counter attacks bringing the ball back in front of his forwards, then something not as planned Mansfield’s new recruit in form Ben Hayes scores, finishing a well-polished move from the 22m line, his third this season and enjoying the wing??? Converted.
Melbourne 12 Mansfield 24
More Melbourne replacements and it makes a big difference, the new set up attacks from the set piece scrum and two quick scores get Melbourne back in the game.
Melbourne 22 Mansfield 24
Melbourne had the momentum and the feeling was they were going to open up with some wide ball but then another unplanned happening from the restart after another quality drop out from Trey Foster and the chase pressurises the Melbourne receiver forcing the mistake for the always hardworking No 8 Chandler Gregory to gather and pop to Martin Taylor for his second on the day!
Melbourne 22 Mansfield 31
7 minutes to play could Mansfield turnaround a 55 – 5 dearth from October???
As before immediate pressure from Melbourne’s fresh legs forced the score for the game to be taken down to the wire, converted try.
Melbourne 29 Mansfield 31
With the penultimate play Melbourne get over the whitewash by guess what, yes moving the ball wide. Mansfield couldn’t scrabble across as good handling by the Melbourne backs got the ball to the outside centre, who ran it into the corner, the ball always beats the man! Unconverted.
Final score Melbourne 34 Mansfield 31
Well done to all the boys, the best team performance to boot keep up the hard work, some of the skills shown is off the chart.
