One of our lads thought Wath Upon Dearne was in FRANCE!! The South Yorkshire side was well drilled but we gave good competition.

Report by Colin Harriman

Andy’s Barmy Army goes North.

Whilst watching the Wath upon Dearne lads warming up you could tell that it was going to be a difficult game as they were well drilled and able.

And with only 00:40 seconds on the clock Wath scored a Try in the left corner. Swirling left to right wind carried the conversion wide of the mark.

Both teams scrummaging were superb with real vim and vigour put into each push and hook.

After 20:00 minutes of too and fro Wath scored under the posts leaving an easy conversion.

The games were to be played in 3x 20:00 plays so a short break, orange quarter and team talk was taken.

03:26 and a penalty is awarded to Mansfield Regan Hubbard takes the kick and judges the height and distance perfectly but the wind takes it to the right of the uprights.

04:51 Blair Holland makes a 30 metre dash with Defenders snapping at his ankles to score a Mansfield Try earning a knock which caused him to have a 10 minute side lining until fit again. Regan Hubbard takes a marvellous 35 metre conversion for the extra points.

06:36 Wath win a Mansfield Line out and manage to bundle a player and ball over the Try line again right under the posts which again gets converted.

15:00 Another Wath Try under the Mansfield posts duly converted.

01:53 in the last 20:00 minute segment and Wath collect the ball neatly from the kick off and again play the ball wide and back in to the centre for another unconverted Try. Wath really show some ball in hand skills that not only are effective but really look good to their spectators.
11:53 and under the Mansfield posts Wath score another Try with a short straight kick for conversion.

13:00 Blair Holland now recovered with Regan Hubbard legs pumping to push him goes over the Try line at the right of the posts. Regan Hubbard without a break then takes the conversion that bisects the posts perfectly.

18:20 Wath are going to have the last say and score their last Try in the far left corner of the pitch and the difficult kick is taken very well to convert.

A good spirited game was played and I am sure valuable lessons learned.

The Wath upon Dearne Man of the Match was a new convert to the game so we will have to look out for him in the future.

Mansfield’s Man of the Match as chosen by the Wath Coach was Sam Potts.

Back to Eakring Road for the next three weeks in a row. Upcoming game is Mellish which are always tasty affairs.
