A dazzling home game with good 50/50 play. Mansfield work hard and gain the rewards!!

Report by Colin Harriman.

The players were keen to keep their winning streak going in midweek and Pre match training and worked hard.

Mansfield has had some hard games away to the Derbyshire team so being switched on from the start was the keyword for this game.

The game started and continued for over 15 minutes of 50:50 plays with no side giving an inch.

16:24 George Holloway showed his usual blistering pace to cross field and travel 40 metres to score a try in the right corner. Regan Hubbard lined up the conversion and the ball was sailing over before scraping millimetres off of the horizontal bar and bouncing back onto the pitch.

17:50 Blair Holland continued his try scoring ways with another try in the right corner before catching accidentally a defenders knee which opened the ‘claret’ floodgates and he had to go off with a suspected broken nose that needed extensive treatment from the team Physio before a journey to Kings Mill Hospital. Regan Hubbard lined up the kick and judged it perfectly to convert for the extra 2 points.

22:25 And Melbourne forced their way over for a try and conversion.

HALF TIME MURFC U15s 12 – 7 Melbourne.

30:29 Sam Potts catches the ball from the kick off and runs over the try line taking opponents with him. Jake Brough narrowly misses conversion.

31:13 And Melbourne’s post score team talk must have been stirring because they passed the ball from hand to hand and side to side until they crossed over for a try which was converted.

33:17 Mansfield recomposed themselves and again George Holloway ran passed 3 defenders to score a try which was converted by Jake Brough.

40:46 Ball in right hand and left hand keeping opposition at bay Regan Hubbard scores a try which Jake Brough just puts to the right of the uprights.

42:41 Melbourne back on the front foot and they are back over Mansfield’s try line which again their Fly half neatly converts.

54:24 Scott Hughes ball in hand leaves opposition behind as he runs down the left wing like a gazelle and scores under the posts. Regan Hubbard steps up and assuredly converts.

Full Time score Mansfield 36 – 21 Melbourne.
Honourable mentions to Melbourne’s number 8 who is very fast and a strong runner taking up to 3 players to bring down at times.

Captained by Jack Harriman with Man of the Match going to the new signing Ryan Haywood who played a really confident and adept Scrum Half role today.
