Chesterfield

So we embarked on a trip over to Derbyshire on a nice sunny spring day to test ourselves against a strong Chesterfield side with a few players out through injury and illness, we still had a squad of 20 players turn out for the mighty blue and white army.
After a short warm up with Daz the boys were ready to play, we kicked off and started well only for Chesterfield to get a break away try early, the lads knew they had to keep the ball better and we did for the next few minutes, we started to move the ball around only for the final passes to go a stray and again Chesterfield number 12 got the ball in his hands and break away for another try, we then started to drop our heads and miss tackle after tackle and our fitness seemed to drop away which then turned to us not getting to the rucks allowing Chesterfield to have the run of the game scoring 3 more tries the lads wanted the half time whistle to go.

After a chat about how we could improve in the 2nd half and making changes to the team, we set up ready to put things right.
Chesterfield kicked off and we came out the blocks with strong running, and aggressive rucking. We soon had Lucas beating defenders to get under the post to start the fight back quickly followed by Kyros (happy feet) going through the defence to make it 25-10, chesterfield tried to stem the flow but we were to strong in the contact area out rucking them to control the game, again Lucas stepped on the gas to go over and again Kyros made it a brace for himself, Chesterfield tried to rally back only for forwards to start putting big runs in with Jack leading from the front making good ground (Even the ref tried to slow him down) sorry ref only one winner there, Josh H started to control the game now from flyhalf and Chesterfield started to ask the ref how long was left and gave a big sigh when he replied 15 mins, again our fitness started to drop but the determination and courage to dig deep paid off with Taylor showing great support play to collect the ball and power over to level the game.
Chesterfield had one last push only for Ethan to put some strong tackles in along with some top jackals from Ethan, Kyros and Lucas. Chesterfield couldn't find away through our defence, we then got the scrum on the halfway line and Josh H called a move we had been practising and it was a thing of pure beauty with the defence opening up like Moses parting the red sea and William stretching his legs to round off a fantastic 2nd half display.
Final score Chesterfield 25-Mansfield 30
A big shout out to Jacob who made his debut and had some big carries and tackles rounding off with the player of the Match award.
