The prevailing wet weather in North Nottinghamshire couldn't prevent Mansfield U12's annual away clash with local rivals Paviors. The boys from both sides know each other very well - having played against each other since they were 6 or 7! - add to that many of them are now at the same senior schools and the scene is set for a great contest.
In order to ensure as many players were on the pitch at any time Mansfield provided two players to Paviors in each of four 15 minute games. The respect these players were shown by Paviors was clear and no punches were pulled by players who played against their team mates. In the final quarter all the tries were scored by Mansfield players. Both teams were knocked back by strong opposition the Sunday before and were eager to demonstrate to the large support that they were capable of so much more. both sides played with discipline and commitment - the Ref's really only had to blow the whistle for re-start and tries in fast and furious games played in heaven conditions. In site of the growing mud both sides instead on playing with width and the support play was superb.
A number of the team really shone out - superb tackles from George, Tom and Eden left larger players reeling and some great offloads from Harrison, Nathaniel and Roan maintained the pace of attacks. Superb line breaking rhino aggression from Brad, Charlie and Kiril got their team going forward. Great tactical awareness was shown by Adam, Jenson and Olly. Special mention to James G who scored 3 tries in the last quarter (for the opposition!). The leg was however awarded to Ewan who demonstrated that he'd really taken the use of space in attack and defence to heart - some great passing and play making created numerous opportunities and he was a solid wall in defence.
