We arrived with 12 players and Chesterfield “borrowed” Nathan Edger to be able to field a full team.
After doing my homework, I knew that Chesterfield had, never the less, been beating opponents by 30 or 40 points on a regular basis. (though I forgot to mention that to my squad!!)
I was asked to Ref and we played 4 x 10 minute sessions as usual and by half time we were 1 – 0 in front, thanks to some great runs and drives forward and excellent tackling by all. This was despite some great work from the home side.
After the re-shuffle to play our subs, the second half was a virtual turn around. Chesterfield managing to eventually slip around our defence to score three times in the corners (again Edger proving that he should never be loaned out!!).
Chesterfield’s last try may have been dropped over the line and could have gone either way, but without the luxury of TV cameras, I gave him the benefit of the doubt and allowed the score, to the approval of the home spectators.
Our try scorer was Zach Holmes (we don’t count Edgers, lol).
The sun came out, everyone had a good game and the Chesterfield Coach and players congratulated us for our determined efforts.
I think they knew they had been in a game.
Overall score, Chesterfield win 4 – 1.
