U9 V Mellish

Mellish came to Eakring road on Sunday looking for revenge for the comfortable wins Mansfield secured against them earlier on in the season. Despite a much improved and encouraging display from the 10 strong Mellish squad, Mansfield were just too strong in all areas. The defensive display was relentless with Mellish being pushed backwards time after time. Our defensive line held true through all the matches and the pressure told on many occasions with a number of break away tries coming from capitalising on the subsequent loose ball. What was most encouraging about the display, is that Mansfield are now consistently showing flair in their game and producing 'wow' moments time and again. We have been working on the importance of support play and quick ball over the past few weeks and this is now becoming the predominant reason for tries being scored, rather than just the big boys breaking through the lines. Teams, like ourselves, are becoming more confident in the tackle as the season progresses, so we have been advocating the need to draw defenders and pass out of the tackle. This technique was evident alot against Mellish on Sunday and the confidence in this with the lads is growing as they are seeing the benefits of it on numerous occasions throughout matches.

They never game up and contributed massively in each to ensure a great spectacle for all supporters from both sides.
