This game proved that Mansfield 3rd belong on top of Pennant League Group 2 in amongst the 2nd XV’s in there.

From the kick off Mansfield started the stronger setting the pace from the front but unlike other weeks they stayed in control of the game for the best part of 90% of the game.

With 4 tries in the first half and 7 in the second Mansfield were always going to win this game but it was no walkover by any means. Mellish never gave up and had a few outstanding players but seemed to lack the cohesion that Mansfield has now found.

The home fixture and this fixture couldn’t have been any different in that Mansfield seemed to stretch their lead after the second half by out performing Mellish in most areas. Zack Walters would have been my MoM playing openside (normally Hooker) and finding him in everything and made a few crucial breaks through the middle of the forwards to get Mellish on the back foot, backed up by the rest of the team but Mellish were too slow to react.

Overall this was the best performance the 3rd XV have displayed all season which sets them up nice for their last Pennant game of the year next week.

Next week Mansfield 3rd XV take on Nottingham Casuals 2nd XV at home. Another tough fixture for the 3rd XV.
