U11 Girls face West Bridgford & Minxes

Mansfield U11 Girls took a squad of eleven players to play our old friends at Melbourne Minxes on Sunday 13th November. We were also hoping to make new friends with a newly formed West Bridgford team.
Between us, we had over thirty U11 girls playing rugby on two pitches were set up with the rules for the first period being touch rugby. Mansfield played Melbourne and displayed some strong running, breaking the line and excellent support. Beautiful support play and handling between Evie and Katherine was complimented by electric pace from Charlotte. A bounty of nine tries were shared between the teams.
The girls then rebelled and demanded that the rules change to “grab tackles”. Mansfield played West Bridgford. Great play taking the ball into contact from Summer and Molly, and superb tries from the half way line for two of our Year 4 players- Poppy and Sophie.
For the final games, the Mansfield Year 6 players (Evie, Lauren, Katherine, Sadie) joined with Melbourne Year 6 players to form a Barbarians side to take on West Bridgford. Mansfield girls led the pack and ran in a pile of tries and produced very stout defence.
Mansfield Year 4 and 5 girls then took on Melbourne Year 4 and 5. A wide pitch led to an expansive game with great forward running. Melbourne attacked repeatedly, but found Megan in the way with her sensational tackling. Great support in defence from Elsie, who showed great heart and tenacity despite her small stature.
All in all, a fantastic afternoon of very competitive rugby, played in a fun, developmental atmosphere.
