Throughout this season Mansfield Rugby Club Girls Section have started a new recruitment programme to encourage Girls in primary schools years 4 - 6 with no rugby experience to come and try the sport in conjunction with the Mansfield Rugby Club Schools Coaching Project
Training sessions have been held for this new element of the Girls Section on a Friday night between 18.30 - 19.30 in which we have seen a steady and consistent growth in numbers throughout the year.
In order to aid the girls development they have played several 'in house' games of touch and grab rugby games against the U8 & U9 boys however Sunday 20th March saw the girls travel to Melbourne Minxes RUFC to play their U11 girls side.
The afternoon was a great success with Mansfield fielding a full team which was well supported with parents eagerly waiting to see their players in their first game.
All the players displayed great core skills and were a great credit to the club, their parents and themselves.
A big thank you to Melbourne Minxes for helping us arrange the event and now that they players have got a taste for competitive rugby we now look forward to arranging further events in the near future .
A final well done to all the coaches that have been working with this group of players all season and to all the parents for being extremely supportive in the project.
