Mansfield RUFC's U15 Girls made the long journey to Old Northamptonians on the 5th March to play in the 1st leg of the RFU U15 Area 4 Plate Final.
With long travel time to the fixture and joy of appalling weather during the match, both teams went at each other as if it was a international fixture with the game moving between both '22' lines in both halves. With the half time score of 0 - 0 it was ON's that came out of the block in the second a fraction quicker and took advantage of the wind, rain and slope of the pitch to make the score 10 - 0. Mansfield then rallied for the remaining 15 ins of the 2nd half to bring the score back to 10 - 5 and then camp themselves in the ON '22'.
The final whistle went with the score at 10 - 5 to ON's. however putting the score to one side the Mansfield coaching team were delighted with the performance from all the players and had nothing but praise for the commitment and efforts levels given by the squad.
The weather helped prevent a flowing game but with the 2nd leg to be played in the 9th April at Mansfield, the scene has been set for a potentially fantastic game of rugby between two very evenly matched sides.
