Nomad Rugby Lodge present Mansfield Rugby Club with £250 cheque for Junior and Mini rugby

On Saturday the 17th September 2022 Mansfield Rugby Club were surprised by a visit from the Nomads Rugby Lodge.

Headed up by their PGM Steve Varley the band of Nomadic masons flew into the Eakring Road ground unannounced to present the club with a cheque for £250 towards the Minis and Juniors sections and also a framed photo montage of the World Cup of which the club are able to use for fund raising at an appropriate time.

In the photo you will see the gentlemen from the Nomads Rugby Lodge, Pete Steffen Club Chairman and a selection of the clubs Under 11's who were on hand to gratefully receive the £250 cheque.

The Nomad Rugby Lodge are a band of ex-players from clubs spread all over the NLD who come together periodically to raise funds for youth rugby. These funds are then distributed through unannounced visits such as this one at Mansfield Rugby Club on Saturday.

PGM Steve Varley stated: "We plan on visiting several clubs in the NLD this season, probably a club every couple of months, starting with Mansfield."

Mansfield were the first club to receive their donation this year.

Pete Steffen exclaimed: "The Nomads just arrived at the club en masse and asked if they were ok to present us with some money and a framed picture. We were flabbergasted but welcomed them and their approach. As unorthodox as it was it felt like a typical rugby thing to do. On speaking with all of them each gent had a great story to tell as to how they became part of this Lodge from the clubs they represent. Absolutely fabulous. Keep up the great rugby community work gents and on behalf of Mansfield Rugby Club I'd like to thank you for your donation today! We certainly will be keeping our ears to the ground as where they turn up next."
