Colts v Nottingham
41 - 7
Mansfield Colts entertained Nottingham at Eakring Road on Sunday morning delivering another impressive performance and recording a 41-7 victory in the process. The Blue and Whites started the game much the better of the two sides and were 19-0 up after only 12 minutes. Nottingham didn't quite know what had hit them as Mansfield laid siege to their line and the scoring was opened by Callum Wood after 5 minutes who was on hand to finish an excellent team move.
Two minutes later the ball was won in midfield and released to the back line eventually reaching flying winger Jonno Cordin who left defenders in his wake as he ran in from half way. Not to be out done, his wing partner Michael Weston gathered the ball on the Nottingham 10 metre line and out sprinted the defence to score. Jordan Bailey was successful with two conversions to make the score 19-0 on 12 minutes.
To their credit, Nottingham re-grouped and defended resolutely for the remainder of the first period but without really threatening the Mansfield line to leave the half time score at 19-0.
The second period started in exactly the same as the first with the Blue and Whites regaining the ball from the kick off and releasing Cordin to sprint home for his second score of the game. The next 10 minutes belonged to Nottingham who were rewarded with a score on 45 minutes to make the score 24-7.
Cordin duly completed his second hat trick of the season on 55 minutes once again showing a clean pair of heels to the defence. The very next play scrum half Adam Shaw cleverly exploited the space in midfield to dance through the Nottingham defence, John-Ross Ward added the extras. The scoring was completed 2 minutes from time when yet another excellent team move was finished out wide by Toby Lieber to make the final score 41-7.
