A strong Notts Moderns outfit was no match for a vibrant Mansfield side whose blend of youth and experience were able to produce some superb open rugby. With the rampant forward pack setting the platform the dynamic back division were able to conjure some fine attacking formations that brought them 6 great tries. A good all round team effort brought creditable performances from young colts Alex Miles, John Kingswood and Tom Key and an outstanding effort at centre for club newcomer James Boler. Scorers for Mansfield:- Paul Heath, Mark Ashley, John Kingswood, James Boler all with a try a piece and 2 tries for man of the match winger Paul Draycott. Alex Miles kicked 1 penalty and 2 conversions.

Nottingham Moderns III 7 - Mansfield III 55
Mansfield 3rds kicked off their league campaign at Notts Moderns on Saturday and came away with a 55-7 win.Moderns came out strong camping in Mansfields half for the first 20 mins, but Mansfields defence held strong .then on 20 mins mansfield broke out with T. Blyth who ran in a 40m try. From here on in Mansfield took control with the forwards dominating play in the tight. Moderns scored 7 points early in the 2nd period but couldnt build on it as fields forward and backs link up play began to dominate the game. fields try scorers were Blyth (2), Hawson (2), Dykes, Kehoe, S. Stevenson, Allsop and Rogers. Conversions came from Allsop (3), Gibbons and Dykes. MOM went to Billy Bragg.
