Nottinghamshire RFU Security Plus Pennant – Group 3

HMP Ranby - 17 v Mansfield III - 25

You know the saying, the sign of a good side is playing badly and still winning well Mansfield 3rds fell into this group Saturday by winning HMP Ranby 17-25 but made really hard of it. Mansfield took the advantage in the first 5 mins with a penalty in front of the posts, kicked by D. Chapman. They missed a second kick which gave Ranby heart and the desire to run everything at Mansfield scoring a quick try on the 20th min to go 7-3 ahead. Although Ranby looked the stronger Mansfield showed that they were by far the more organised side and gave Ranby a lesson in ball possession and control. Attacks were exchanged at both ends turning around at half time 12-10 down. D. Chapman scoring all Mansfields points. It was clear that Ranby only had one agenda and that was to run all their ball but the lack of direction let them down. Mansfield started to take control again in the 3rd quarter playing positive controlled rugby, inching up the field and taking their points when available. Tries from D. Chapman (x2), S. Stevenson and D. Kehoe. D. Chapman kicking a conversion and penalty too.

Nottinghamshire RFU Security Plus Pennant – Group 5

Mansfield IV - 29 v West Bridgford III – 6

Like the 3rds Mansfield 4ths kept up their unbeaten league run now at 4. West Bridgford came to Mansfield with a mixture of youth and experiance and gave as good as they got for most of the game the main differance being that Mansfield took their chances when they came. A. Payne did most of the damage finishing off three good team tries with R. Leeson adding a try in the 2nd period. R. Pruden’s boot was also firing well with 3 conversions and a penalty to add to his total giving Mansfield a 29-6 victory. MOM went to T. Gibbons.
