MANSFIELD 3rd  8   ASHBOURNE 2nd 26

The 3rds held Ashbourne to a close game for the first 60 minutes but eventually lost to the fitter side 26-8. The first half was a close affair going in at half  time 7-3 down but Mansfield came back at Ashbourne from the off scoring a stirring try through a great forward effort when Steffen broke through the middle of a maul to touch down. It was 8-7 to Mansfield for the next 20 minutes with the blue and whites applying constant pressure but failing to come away with points. Fitness got the better of the home side in the last 20 which allowed Ashbourne to break several tackles to run in a couple of scores to seal their deserved win. Upside is Mansfield showed that they can compete in this league of 2nd teams and with a slight game plan change they could do well.
