The 3rd XV were back in league action at the weekend hosting a strong Lincoln 2nd team. Having lost 29-0 away from home previously Mansfield knew they had to put in a good performance to stay with Lincoln and that is exactly what they did. A strong start for Mansfield saw them 10-0 up after 35 minutes but a penalty and a last minute converted try just before half time tied the sides at the break. A further penalty to Mansfield after 60 mins took Mansfield ahead and they looked like they were going to steal an emphatic win over the league leaders who had won 9 out of 9 but Lincoln had the last play of the game and a break away try sealed Mansfields’ fate. At 13-17 the game was over with Lincoln only having the last 5 mins of each half to score but it was enough. Mansfield can take great heart from their performance taking Lincoln to the wire.
