Mansfield Rugby Club Chairman Andy Foster announced in January that Honorary Life Member and founder member of the club Alan Shaw was to become the club’s new President on the 19th April 2008.

This date is the closest Saturday to the club’s actual birthday which is 23rd April. Alan was one of the original 17 members to form our first committee on 23rd April 1956. Alan was a life long friend of our Founder President Ted Lane who passed away last July and is delighted to be asked by the committee to become the club’s President. “Alan has done a tremendous amount of work for the club especially during our early years and has been instrumental in helping the club to become the success it is today. The recommendation to make Alan our New President was met with universal approval and we shall mark that occasion on the 19th April” commented Club Chairman Andy Foster.

Alan was offcially appointed the Club's President on the 19th April and the photograph to the left shows club Chairman Andy Foster presenting Alan with a crystal tankard to commemorate the occasion.
